Throughout the autumn of 1994, James Hayward of Green Bay worked tirelessly with local volunteers and Ralph Peterson of the Marinette County Historical Society to reconstruct a cabin from the turn of the 20th century: the Evancheck Log Cabin. Last inhabited in 1927, this historical dwelling was donated by the Evancheck family and moved from Bagley Road in Porterfield to its permanent location on Stephenson Island in Marinette.
On May 13th, 1995, the dedication of the Evancheck Cabin took place at the Marinette County Historical Museum, during which the various contributions and donations from individuals and businesses were acknowledged. Today, visitors can tour this appropriately-furnished farmstead to get a feel for what daily life looked like for pioneers settling this area.
